Specialist vets providing orthopaedic surgery for cats and dogs from across the south
The Moores Orthopaedic Clinic is a purpose-built independent orthopaedic practice for dogs and cats. You will find us in the beautiful village of Upton Grey, close to Basingstoke and just a few minutes from the M3 and 30 minutes from the M25. We take referrals from across Hampshire, Surrey, Berkshire, London, West Sussex and beyond.
RCVS Specialist Surgeons
Our surgeons, Andy Moores and Chris Jordan, are recognised by the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons as Specialists in Orthopaedics. This is the highest level of veterinary surgical qualification in the UK. They are also recognised by the EBVS as European Specialists in Small Animal Surgery. Andy and Chris have decades of specialist orthopaedic experience between them and are widely respected in the veterinary world (biographies below). Andy is also Chairman of the British Veterinary Orthopaedic Association. Most vets providing orthopaedic surgery services in general practice are not Specialists and therefore have not fulfilled the training or assessment required to become a Specialist. At other referral centres your pet may be treated by a junior surgeon at the beginning of their surgical career (a ‘resident’). At The Moores Orthopaedic Clinic we can guarantee that you will see, and your pet will be treated by, an experienced RCVS-recognised Specialist surgeon able to provide the very best specialist orthopaedic care. You can find out more about specialists, and check to see if a surgeon is a recognised Specialist, by clicking here.
Specialist Facilities
As well as great surgeons, we have a clinic that has been designed from scratch to maximise the chances of a great outcome for your pet after surgery, with facilities that you will not find at your typical vet practice, or many referral centres. Infection after orthopaedic surgery can be catastrophic and so our surgical suite has been designed to human orthopaedic theatre standards with its own HEPA-filtered ventilation system, isolated from the rest of the clinic. And as you would expect, we have digital x-ray and a state-of-the-art CT scanner on site.
Surgical Guarantee
With Specialist surgeons and a purpose-designed clinic we are confident in our low complication rate after surgery and to demonstrate this to you we offer a 12-month guarantee after some of our routine procedures. We believe we were the first clinic to offer such a comprehensive guarantee, although others have since followed!
We’ve got your back!
We know how stressful it can be having a pet go through surgery and that’s why we want to make it as easy for you as possible. Our specialist team are available 24/7 to support you and help with any concerns you may have. Owners love our app which makes it really easy to send us messages and pictures of your pet at any time after surgery.
Highly Competitive Pricing
Because we are an independent and orthopaedic-only practice we can provide a highly personable experience and very competitive pricing compared to the corporate referral centres. If your vet has referred you to us then it is because they value our expertise. And if you have been referred elsewhere, but would like us to see your pet, then just ask your vet for a referral to us, or give us a call.
The Moores Orthopaedic Clinic was founded by Andy Moores and Richard Hoile. Andy and Richard previously established and grew a large veterinary referral hospital near Winchester, since taken over by a corporate chain. Andy and Richard saw a need for an independent clinic dedicated to providing the best orthopaedic care at a reasonable price, and thus in May 2023 The Moores Orthopaedic Clinic was born.

Richard Hoile
Managing Director
Richard began his career working in finance in a variety of countries (China, UAE, Bahrain, New Zealand and Canada) before returning to the UK in 1996 and specialising in project finance. In 2006 he was a founding shareholder and chair of Anderson Moores Veterinary Specialists Ltd which grew to be one of the largest multi-disciplinary referral hospitals in the country, becoming its CEO in 2014. He oversaw the sale of the business to the Pets at Home Group in 2016, staying on to become the Pets at Home referrals director until the end of 2020.
When not at work Richard tries (and increasingly fails) to maintain his trail-running times, looks after Sita, his black Lab, and is a trustee and volunteer for Serv Wessex, the motorcycle emergency blood delivery charity.

Emma Howell-Jones
Head Nurse
Emma is our head nurse and has worked with Andy and Richard in the past. She qualified in 2011 and has worked in referrals since 2014 with a bias to the surgical side. We are very lucky to have her setting the tone and standards in the clinic. Emma co-owns Millie the spaniel and loves live music, cooking and eating good food and long walks in the countryside and on the beach.

Abbi Campling
Registered Veterinary Nurse
Abbi passed her nursing exams back in 2021. After completing her training in a first opinion hospital, she decided to take the jump to referral nursing in 2022 and hasn’t looked back since. She particularly enjoys nursing feline patients and at home loves spending time with her two cats, Pudding and Pickle. When she’s not working, she enjoys playing netball, baking, and socialising with friends.

Amy Jones
Registered Veterinary Nurse
Amy has 10 years of experience from a very busy first opinion practice together with a background in horses. Her little Jack Russell Eddie is a regular visitor to the practice. When she is not at work she enjoys time with her young family, is a keen distance runner, and is also a run director at junior parkrun events.

Beth Littlejohn
Registered Veterinary Nurse
After graduating in 2024, Beth spent a year at a multidisciplinary referral hospital in Bristol on a Nursing Graduate Programme. She joined the team at Moores Orthopaedics to pursue her passion for orthopaedic nursing and to continue to develop her referral nursing skills.
Outside of work she enjoys trampolining, spending time with friends, and planning lots of trips away.

Karen Tucker
Registered Veterinary Nurse - Night Nurse
Karen has worked with Andy and Richard for well over a decade now and brings not only a cheerful smile, but also a wealth of experience to looking after our patients overnight. We can always rest assured that all will be well when Karen is on duty. When not at the clinic Karen tends her rare beed sheep on her farm.

Molly Halden
Registered Veterinary Nurse
Molly qualified as a veterinary nurse in 2020 at a first opinion hospital. Upon her return from backpacking in Asia in 2023, she joined a multidisciplinary referral practice within the surgical team. Molly is currently pursuing a surgical nursing certificate, aiming to have it complete by the end of 2025. Outside of work, Molly enjoys keeping fit and socialising with friends.

Ruby Clarke
Registered Veterinary Nurse
Ruby graduated from the Royal Veterinary College in 2013. She then spent two years in first opinion veterinary care before starting her career in referral nursing. She has been a head nurse twice and has a certificate in anaesthesia, this being one of her favourite areas of nursing.
She has a lovely old greyhound called Loki who spends his time in the staff room whilst she’s working, inspecting everyone’s lunch! She also rides her horse in her spare time, enjoying exploring the countryside come rain or shine.

Saskia Hobbs
Registered Veterinary Nurse
Saskia jumped straight into referral nursing on passing her nursing exams back in 2021. She came to us from another high profile referral hospital and has brought her enthusiasm and experience to the team. When not at work she relishes keeping fit by running and walking her dog.

Scarlett Beesley
Registered Veterinary Nurse
Scarlett has considerable specialist referral experience having spent the last 8 years at a highly regarded local referral hospital as a clinical lead nurse. She is also an accomplished horsewoman having competed at championship level on Joey. When she’s not working, she enjoys exploring the countryside with Inka her dog.

Daisy Clarke
Technician
Daisy is the most artistic member of our team with a degree in Fine Art! She has been involved in a variety of ventures before entering the veterinary field, initially at another high profile referral hospital before joining the team at Moores Ortho. When not at the clinic she runs a small business selling handmade jewellery, clothing and homeware, and is also kept busy looking after Asta and Wilf, her two dogs, and Morrissey the cat.

Angela Edwards
Technician
Angela is a proud Army veteran with 13 years of military service, now 7 years into her second career in the veterinary sector—starting in emergency and critical care, where her quick thinking and her ability to stay calm under pressure still come in handy. As a mother of two, life outside of work is just as intense—but filled with love, laughter, and probably a little chaos. Balancing military discipline, veterinary compassion, and motherhood has shaped her into someone who thrives under pressure, leads with her heart, and finds humour in just about everything.

Emily Irving
Administrator
Emily began working with animals in 2019 straight from completing her education. She started work in a busy pet store which led on to her becoming receptionist at a first opinion practice. She enjoys meeting new people every day and always having that one thing in common – a shared love for pets!
When at home she spends time with her two adopted British Shorthair cats, Junie and Brick. She also has two Cocker Spaniels, Elsie and Poppy, who enjoy long walks (with a coffee and cake pitstop). She also enjoys live music and travelling.

Kerthi Janson
Administrator
Kerthi is one of our clinic administrators. She began her career in dentistry, but her love for pets inspired her to move into veterinary care. She is committed to supporting both clients and their pets by creating a welcoming and professional experience. Outside of work, she enjoys photography and looks forward to exploring new places with her partner and her dog, Roxy.
